The story behind this photo
The Long Answer
The Long Answer. Texas Longhorns descend from cattle brought by Spanish explorers and settlers. Running half wild for generations, cows with longer horns could fight off predators and raised more calves.
Bevo, since 1916. In 1916 a longhorn steer rode a train from South Texas to Austin and became UT's first live mascot, soon named Bevo. Despite the legend, the name did not come from the 13-0 brand rival Aggies burned into his hide.
